Tshwane Fresh Produce Market
The Tshwane Fresh Produce Market (TFPM) is the second largest market of its kind in South Africa, with an estimated 21% market share of the total turnover of the seventeen fresh produce markets currently operational in South Africa. TEDA has identified an area called Tshwane Fresh Produce Market (west of the Pretoria CBD) with potential to expand, attract investment opportunities and to maximise its land use within the confines of legislation and possibility.
The TFPM is (as per the above) located in the north-west of the CBD of the City of Tshwane, between Es'kia Mphahlele Drive and Vom Hagen Street and covers an area of 32.9 Ha. It is imperative that the Tshwane Market undertake the upgrade and expansion project to protect and grow its market share. Various studies were initiated by the COT's TFPM Management Team, which, together, highlighted the need for infrastructure upgrades which shall enhance the sustainability of the market.
• Potential to establish seven new BBBEE market agencies upon
completion of the expansion and upgrading processes.
• Food security in Tshwane
• Retention of current jobs and creation of an estimated 730 new jobs
• Opportunities for SMMEs through expanding the trading floor with approximately 43 000m². and Construction of 4 000m² of chilled storage capacity inside the trading halls
Please note that the precinct plan for the Tshwane Fresh Produce Market is being developed by TEDA and further information will be provided as it unfolds.
